The Relationship between Air Travel and Climate Change
An online article by Climate Central lists five main ways that climate is affecting air travel; from rising seas, to shifting temperatures, and fluctuations within the wind and weather. These factors seem to only be getting worse and more severe due to air pollution and CO2 emissions, and one of the largest growing sources of this comes from burnt fossil fuels and emissions caused by aircraft and airports. This creates a cycle that makes things worse for both air travel and the environment itself, creating a problem that requires remedy (Williams).
I'm personally surprised that the aviation industry's by-products are negatively affecting itself and thus making air travel less safe. I hope that one day, we can see more aircraft powered by renewable energy such as solar panels, green fuels, or any sort of renewable energy. Even though I've learned that most of the aircraft used in commercial air travel haven't been replaced in decades, it'd be great if they could be scrapped and recycled for the creation of better, more efficient aircraft that can affect the environment much less, thus improving the world's climate and the ability for all air travel to have safer flights.
